On Thanksgiving Day 2024, Jordan Love secured his first turkey leg after leading the Green Bay Packers to a decisive 30-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Lambeau Field. The Packers, who entered the week as 3.5-point favorites, delivered an electrifying performance, outscoring the spread by nine points in a commanding display of football on a national stage.

Despite the short week, the Packers showed no signs of fatigue, starting strong from the opening kickoff. Keisean Nixon set the tone with an impressive 43-yard return to the Green Bay 46-yard line. However, the offense stumbled early, going three-and-out after a sack and a false start. Punter Daniel Whelan launched a 45-yard punt, which Miami muffed, allowing Robert Rochell to recover the ball at the Dolphins’ 9-yard line. Three plays later, Jordan Love connected with Jayden Reed on a 3-yard

touchdown pass, giving Green Bay an early lead.

The Packers' defense responded by forcing Miami into a quick punt after a five-play drive netted negative yardage. On the ensuing possession, Josh Jacobs and Tucker Kraft spearheaded a drive capped by Jacobs’ 1-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 14-0.

Miami found some rhythm midway through the first half, driving 55 yards to set up Jason Sanders’ field goal, narrowing the deficit to 14-3. The Packers offense stalled on the next drive, but the defense remained relentless, sacking Tua Tagovailoa twice to force another punt. Green Bay capitalized on the momentum with a 62-yard drive, culminating in Love’s second touchdown pass to Reed, this time from 12 yards out. The Dolphins countered by exploiting the Packers' vulnerabilities in middle-field coverage, advancing to Green Bay’s 38-yard line. However, the Packers defense stood firm, forcing a turnover on downs. With just 22 seconds remaining in the half, Love orchestrated a 34-yard drive to set up Brandon McManus for a 46-yard field goal, extending the lead to 24-3 at halftime.

Second Half Adjustments and Resilience
The second half opened with a defensive stop, as Green Bay forced Miami to punt after gaining only two yards. The Packers offense then engineered a methodical eight-play, 72-yard drive, highlighted by Christian Watson’s 46-yard reception, but settled for a field goal, pushing the lead to 27-3. Miami responded with a touchdown drive, exploiting Green Bay’s middle-field coverage yet again. De’Von Achane capped the drive with a 14-yard touchdown, and a successful two-point conversion trimmed the Packers' lead to 27-11.
Late in the third quarter, the Dolphins drove to the Packers’ 1-yard line, poised to make it a one-score game. On fourth down, Quay Walker delivered a game-changing sack, forcing a turnover on downs. Green Bay’s offense capitalized with a highlight-reel play as Love found Jacobs for a 49-yard gain, setting up another McManus field goal to make it 30-11.
Miami refused to quit, marching 67 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. However, the Packers thwarted their two-point conversion attempt, maintaining a 13-point cushion. Green Bay’s defense then closed the door, forcing Miami into a turnover on downs with under two minutes remaining.

A Celebration to Remember
As snow flurries dusted Lambeau Field, the Packers delivered a performance that warmed the hearts of their fans. The victory was capped by a celebratory moment as Jordan Love was awarded the iconic turkey leg, prepared by Packers Hall of Famer LeRoy Butler. With a triumphant bite and an arm raised in celebration, Love shared the moment with his teammates, embodying the spirit of Thanksgiving triumph at midfield.
Packers fans had plenty to be thankful for—a team in control, a statement win, and a glimpse of leadership from their young quarterback.
